British boxer Amir Khan has talked up a possible bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr ahead of the latter's fight with Saul Alvarez.
Mayweather is set to step into the ring in Las Vegas on Saturday for his first fight since May and he will take on Mexico's Alvarez, the WBC and WBA light middleweight champion.
While Mayweather has only fought one bout per year for the past four years, with 2007 the last time he had multiple fights in a calendar year, Khan and his promoter Richard Schaefer are confident the undefeated 36-year-old American will be interested in fighting again soon.
Schaefer believes the fight could occur in May, 2014 at Wembley Stadium in London.
"Amir has told me he wants the fight and there is no reason why it should not take place, with Wembley being a very viable venue," Schaefer said on Wednesday.
"Whenever it takes place, you would get more than 80,000 fans inside Wembley and that will be a huge fight to have and one that I know Amir's very keen on."
Khan is a former two-time world champion having held the WBA and IBF light welterweight titles before he moved to the welterweight division this year.
The 26-year-old Brit is set to fight the United States' Devon Alexander in December, with the bout likely to be held in New York after Khan's preference of Dubai was ruled out as a venue.
But Khan is already looking ahead to a potential clash with Mayweather, who is undefeated after 44 professional bouts.
"My dream is to fight Mayweather and for us to come together in the UK would be marvellous," Khan said.
"I have never ducked a challenge and always want to fight the best and they just don't come any better than Mayweather.
"He is dangerous and his record speaks for itself.
"He will be a really tough guy to beat but I have the ability to do just that."
