Anambra Poll: Some Media houses excluded from final collation of results, WHY?
INEC said only 18 media houses will cover the result collation.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has expelled PREMIUM TIMES and some other media organisations from covering the final collation of Anambra State governorship election results.
Results of the poll, rescheduled in some areas by 24 hours, are expected to be announced Sunday.
Frank Egbo, the INEC Public Relations Officer, said only 18 media houses would be allowed to cover the collation, which is about to commence.
“If your organization is not on the list, you will not be allowed to be here,” Mr. Egbo said.
Some of the newspapers, though duly accredited, were barred from covering the compilation and announcement of results of the election. They include PREMIUM TIMES, Business Day, National Daily, and others.
Mr. Egbo did not say how INEC arrived at the list. He insisted on excluding the media organisations despite the intervention of a senior INEC media official in Abuja who urged that PREMIUM TIMES be allowed at the event.
Those allowed to cover the collation include AIT, TVC, Silverbird, The Punch, The Nation, MBI, ABS, NTA, FRCN, LaNUBlog among others.
