Soldiers kill nine Boko Haram suspects in Borno shoot-out, Army says
One soldier was injured in the attack.
The Nigerian military said on Friday that it killed nine members of the outlawed Boko Haram sect in a shoot-out.
The spokesperson of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Muhammed Dole, said the shoot-out occurred along the routes leading to Alagarno and Rimanti villages in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Mr. Dole, a Lieutenant Colonel, also said several other terrorists escaped with various degrees of injuries, while one soldier was injured from the attack.
Damboa is 85 kilometres south of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, where the Boko Haram ideology was birthed.
The spokesperson also said a large cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the terrorists.
The statement reads, “In a midnight encounter with Boko Haram insurgents, troops of 7 Division Nigerian Army killed nine Boko Haram Terrorists while others fled with various degree of injuries along Rimanti -Allagarno road in Damboa Local government area of Borno state on Thursday 14 November 2013. Likewise during the encounter large arms and ammunition were recovered and 2 pickup vans vehicles were destroyed. Among the items recovered are a Pickup van, 2 motorcycles.
“A soldier was injured in action, but receiving treatment at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital”.
Borno, like neighbouring Yobe and Adamawa, is currently under emergency rule as the military battles to dislodge the Boko Haram sect who have claimed responsibility and have been accused of killing thousands of people in different attacks in Northern Nigeria.
