INEC recruits 2,000 staff nationwide, says Commissioner

The staff were distributed to INEC offices around Nigeria.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday, said it employed about 2,000 new staff to strengthen its operational efficiency.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ekiti State, Halilu Pai, said this when he addressed journalists in Ado Ekiti.
He said that the new hands were engaged recently by the commission to boost its staff strength nationwide.
The commissioner said that the newly engaged staff had already been distributed evenly across the 36 state offices in the country, including Abuja.
Mr. Pai said that the intention of the commission was to bridge the gap usually created by the shortfall in staff strength. He said that the development would no longer make the commission to solely rely on usage of ad-hoc staff to conduct its elections.
The official urged stakeholders in the electoral system in Ekiti state not to be apprehensive about success or otherwise of next year’s governorship poll.
He said that the body was ready for a free, fair and transparent exercise, contrary to insinuations in some quarters.
Mr. Pai said that the commission was now being more proactive than ever toward ensuring that it was fair to all concerned in its activities. He said that this had become necessary in order to make election outcome acceptable in all areas.
