Welcome to our live coverage of the second day of Oscar Pistorius' cross-examination on charges of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

The 27-year-old athlete, who competed at both the London 2012 Paralympic Games and the Olympics, is charged with murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp - a charge he denies.

The South African state prosecutor began his cross-examination of Mr Pistorius on Wednesday. Responding to questions from Mr Nel, the athlete said he had made a "terrible mistake" when his shot his girlfriend on 14 February 2013. You can watch the exchange in court here.

Mr Nel is asking Mr Pistorius about his relationship with Reeva Steenkamp. The athlete says their relationship was "good". "We were in the foundation phase of our relationship - still opening up to each other, still starting to trust each other," he says.
"I never got the opportunity to tell Reeva I loved her," says Mr Pistorius.
